St Patrick’s Primary School is a large co-ed school situated on the Killyman Road in Dungannon. The school was built in 1991 to facilitate the amalgamation of the Convent of Mercy Primary school for girls and St Patrick’s Monastery Primary school for boys. It provides an attractive, secure, well-maintained environment for the children who attend the school .The school has won Best Kept Large School in the Southern Board area on three occasions and been runner-up twice.

The current enrolment is 757. This includes 78 pupils in Nursery, 24 pupils in 2 L.S. Classes, 9 pupils in the Speech and Language class and 22 classes from P1-P7 including several children for whom English is an Additional Language who have enrolled within the last five years. In all there are 34 teachers and over 30 classroom/domestic assistants who provide caring, talented, dedicated teaching and support for all the children in their care. In addition there is a computer technician/library assistant, 3 secretaries and a full time caretaker. Every member of staff is a valued and valuable member of our school team aiming to ensure the best possible educational experiences and pastoral care for the children entrusted to us.

The children within the Learning Support Classes and the Speech and Language class are taught by specialist teachers who are trained and experienced in meeting their individual needs and supported by classroom assistants. They integrate successfully with their mainstream peers for many subjects.

Our nursery classes were opened in 1999 – each with 26 pupils enrolled - two within refurbished, purpose built accommodation within the school and another in a purpose built outreach centre in the west of the town. Additional building work took place to accommodate the Speech and Language class within the school and to provide disabled access and toilet facilities.

St. Patrick’s, while being a very large, well-organised primary school, prides itself on the warm, family, friendly atmosphere that exists within the whole school community. There is excellent parental support. Parents are always welcome in St Patrick’s and are kept well informed of their children’s progress and of any curricular developments within the school. Parents are most supportive of the school. The Board of Governors are very involved and well informed. They work conscientiously to ensure that the highest possible standard of educational provision is delivered within the school.

The school is very well resourced and C2k hardware and software have been installed and used enthusiastically throughout the school. In addition a computer suite is available for the children from P.3 –P.7. There is comprehensive library provision in all areas of the school. We are continually updating and developing developing our ICT and Library resources.

Children achieve the highest standards both academically and in extra curricular activities. There are after school classes for athletics, football, tennis, art and music. The school choir further enhances our celebration of the Liturgy and has enjoyed successful participation in Local and National competitions.

Many successful links with the community have been established including a very successful cross community contact scheme, joint projects with the local second level schools, fund raising for charities, Breakthru drugs education centre, our local clergy and links with local industries. Over the past three years we have received a Gold Award in Seagate Young Innovators Junior Industry Challenge, with a successfully published Recipe Book and a successful end of year School Performance.

The pupils of St Patrick’s Primary School - in response to our positive behaviour management policy- are well behaved, happy, motivated and articulate. The high expectations and vision of all ensure that they are confident, eager and ready to live life to the full.
