Spring beginnings in Primary 1

3rd Mar 2026

In Numeracy we are learning about the Number 13 and adding using the language of addition.  We are making our own simple addition sums using the dice.  We used the numicon shapes, tens frames and the number rods to make the numbers 11, 12 and 13.  We were doing some weight work using the pan balance scales.
In literacy we listened to the story of Jack and The Beanstalk. We did some role play with Miss O'Neill and acted out the story together.  This week we have World Book Day on 5th March. We can dress up as our favourite character.  Our new sound this week is for the letter 't'. Our keyword is the word 'is'  We are learning to read and write our keywords and the words from our Oxford Reading Tree reading books.
We went to the Computer Suite on Monday, where we did a mathseeds and fast phonics assignment.
In the World Around Us this week we started the topic of Spring. We are creating a Spring Display in our classroom.
We have started to make our pictures using paint in JIT5.
We had our P.E. lesson with Caolan from Happy Healthy Kids. We had to copy  the moves of our partners.
4 more children won certificates for great work on their mathseeds and fast phonics.  We visited the computer Suite on Monday and look forward to having the i-Pads on Friday.
We are learning about how we change as we grow up and we were dressing the dolls and teddy bears with clothes.
We are using clay to make our own pinch pots for a very special day next week!
Look out for more photos towards the end of the week and remember to visit the P1 sounds section on the home-school area of our school website.  New videos are posted weekly. Tomorrow we are going to go to the Outdoor Area to being out equipment for our mud kitchen. Keep up the hard work children.  Mrs Devine and Miss O'Neill are very proud of you.
