P1 Mrs Mc Kenna-St Brigid's Day
5th Feb 2026
We celebrated St Brigid's Day by making traditional St Brigid's crosses using natural rushes. This tradition helps the children connect with culture while learning about the natural world around them.
As part of our Eco-Schools work, we linked this activity to Biodiversity. We learned where rushes grow, why wetlands and grassy areas are important habitats and how plants provide food and shelter for many animals. We even used the rushes to create some beautiful artwork.
