SPSC1 Weekly roundup March Week 1
We have had a very busy and enjoyable start to March in SPSC, with lots of excellent learning taking place across all areas of the curriculum. The boys have shown great enthusiasm, effort and teamwork throughout the week.
In Maths, we have been focusing on units of measurement. The boys explored different ways of measuring and comparing length, height and capacity using practical resources and hands-on activities. We also looked more closely at solving word problems involving units of measurement, encouraging the boys to read carefully, think about the information given and decide which operation to use. It has been great to see their confidence growing in this area.
We had lots of fun engaging in sensory play through our tuff tray activities based on The Three Little Pigs. The boys enjoyed exploring different textures and materials while retelling the story and using their imagination during play. These activities supported both language development and creative thinking.
In WAU, we explored houses from around the world. The boys learned how homes can differ depending on climate, location and culture, discussing the variety of materials, shapes and sizes used. They were particularly interested in homes built on water. During play, the boys worked collaboratively to design and build their own houses using wooden blocks, showing great creativity and problem-solving skills.
PE was, as always, a highlight of the week. The boys participated with fantastic energy and enthusiasm, developing their coordination, teamwork and listening skills while having lots of fun.
Our younger boys worked hard on their CVC words this week. Through a range of engaging activities, they practised blending sounds to read and segmenting words to spell. It has been lovely to see their confidence and independence continue to grow.
In Art, we created beautiful watercolour crayon-resist designs inspired by artist Karla Gerard, who is known for her vibrant and whimsical village scenes. The boys explored pattern, colour and shape to create their own patchwork-style designs, and their finished work looks fantastic.
World Book Day was a huge success in our class. The boys had a wonderful day celebrating reading, enjoyed the assembly and were delighted to have their achievements recognised. We are very proud of their efforts and positive attitude towards learning.
We finished the week with Friday Fun cookery, where the whole class enjoyed making their own pizzas. The boys loved choosing their toppings and showed great independence while preparing their food — and of course, they really enjoyed eating them too!
